The state of Arizona requires us to perform an informational session 24-hours prior to any abortion care services. Because of this your abortion care will consist of 2 appointments.

Common Questions
How effective is the abortion pill?
The abortion pill or medication abortion is non-invasive, non-surgical, and has a 98% effectiveness. In cases where the pill is not effective, Camelback Family Planning will complete the aspiration abortion in the office at no additional cost.
Is the abortion pill safe?
The medication abortion regiment has had FDA approval for over 20 years and has a proven safety record. 95% of patients who have done the medical abortion would recommend it to a friend.
How does the abortion pill work?
The medical abortion consists of taking two medications: mifepristone and misoprostol. The mifepristone medication is taken at your scheduled appointment in the office. Twenty-four-to-48 hours later, the misoprostol tablets are taken. After taking the misoprostol, most women experience a heavy menstrual period and cramps. Every woman experiences this differently and levels of discomfort vary.
At your consultation visit, you will be able to ask the medical staff  your specific questions.
At the abortion visit, we will have you fill out registration forms.

Are surgical abortions safe?
Surgical abortions are one of the most common outpatient procedures done in the US and are very safe.
Are the nurses licensed?
All the support staff at Camelback Family Planning are licensed nurses, not medical assistants.
Is sedation given during  surgical abortions?
To make you as comfortable as possible, we give sedation during all surgical abortions. Most patients experience little to no discomfort or pain. An ultrasound will be done at the end of the procedure to make sure it was completed.
At your consultation visit, you will be able to ask the medical staff  your specific questions. Note that later pregnancies may need a two-day procedure.
At the abortion visit, we will have you fill out registration forms.
You may complete them ahead of time to save time at the appointment.

Are you a minor?

How do I get an abortion as a minor?
If you are able to get parental consent from at least one parent, you must have the parental consent form notarized and bring it to our office on the day of your abortion visit.
How can I get the form notarized?
You can utilize any notary or the form can be notarized in our clinic. To notarize this form in our clinic, you must bring the following to the clinic on the day of your abortion care:
  • Patient's ID (driver's license, school ID, etc.)
  • Parent's government issued ID
  • Guardianship documentation (birth certificate, etc.)
  • If either the parent or child has changed their name, they must bring legal documentation to show it

At the abortion visit, you and a guardian must sign the parental consent form.
